By the Power of Grayskull!

On September 5, 1983, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered. This popular and groundbreaking animated series featured a heroic prince who transformed into a powerful warrior to protect his planet from the evil Skeletor, using a toy-based line of characters and settings.

Nerdy Fact: He-Man never hurt anybody. The show had strict guidelines to avoid violence and moral ambiguity. He-Man could only use his sword to deflect lasers or cut through objects, and he never punched or kicked anyone. He usually just threw his enemies away or tied them up.

The Caped Crusader

On September 5, 1992, Batman: The Animated Series premiered. This critically acclaimed show features the dark and gritty adventures of the Caped Crusader and his allies against the colorful and twisted villains of Gotham City.

Nerdy Fact: The show popularized Harley Quinn, who was originally created for the episode “Joker’s Favor” as a one-time sidekick for the Joker. She became so popular that she was added to the comics and other media adaptations.

The Wrestler

On September 5, 2008, The Wrestler premiered. This movie starred Mickey Rourke as Randy “The Ram” Robinson and is a poignant drama about a fading star of professional wrestling who struggles to cope with his health, his family, and his identity in a brutal and unforgiving industry.

Nerdy Fact: The video game that Randy and his neighbor play, Wrestle Jam ’88, was fully functional and created specially for the film. It features similar graphics to the original WWF WrestleMania Nintendo game.
