THE PRINCESS BRIDE
In 1987, The Princess Bride premiered. This fantasy adventure comedy film based on the 1973 novel of the same name by William Goldman, is about a farm boy named Westley who tries to rescue his true love Princess Buttercup from an evil prince and his henchmen, with the help of a swordsman, a giant, and a pirate.
Nerdy Fact: André the Giant, who played Fezzik, was known for his enormous size and strength, but also for his drinking ability. He could drink up to 12 bottles of wine or 24 beers in one sitting. He once drank 119 beers in six hours.

FREAKS AND GEEKS
In 1999, Freaks and Geeks premiered. This TV series follows the lives of two groups of misfit teenagers, the “freaks” and the “geeks”, as they struggle with school, family, and social issues in the early 1980s.
Nerdy Fact: The show had a huge music budget, as it featured over 120 songs from the era, including classics by The Who, Van Halen, KISS, and Joan Jett. The music rights also delayed the DVD release of the show until 2004.

SAVE THE CHEERLEADER, SAVE THE WORLD
In 2006, Heroes premiered. This TV series followed the stories of ordinary people who discovered that they had superhuman abilities and how they used them to prevent catastrophic futures.
Nerdy Fact: The show’s title sequence featured a helix symbol that represented the genetic mutation that gave the characters their abilities. The symbol was also seen throughout the show as a clue or a motif. The symbol was designed by Tim Sale, a comic book artist who also provided the artwork for Isaac Mendez’s paintings and 9th Wonders! comics on the show.
