“BOND. JAMES BOND.”

In 1962, Dr. No premiered. This was the first film in the James Bond series, starring Sean Connery as the British spy who investigates the disappearance of a fellow agent and the disruption of the American space program by a mysterious villain with a metal hand.

Nerdy Fact: The line “Bond, James Bond” was improvised by Sean Connery.

“MOVE IT, FOOTBALL HEAD!”

In 1996, Hey Arnold! premiered on Nickelodeon. This animated sitcom follows the life of a fourth-grader named Arnold, who has a football-shaped head and lives with his eccentric grandparents in a boarding house in a city inspired by Seattle, Portland, and Brooklyn.

Nerdy Fact: The original voice of Arnold, Lane Toran, had to stop playing the character because his voice changed. He later voiced Wolfgang, the bully who tormented Arnold and his friends.

“RUN, BARRY. RUN!”

In 2014, The Flash premiered. The Flash is a TV series based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name, who can move at superhuman speeds and fights crime in Central City. The show follows Barry Allen, a forensic scientist who gains his powers from a particle accelerator explosion and joins forces with other metahumans and allies to face various threats, including his archenemy, the Reverse-Flash.

Nerdy Fact: The actor who plays Barry Allen’s father, Henry Allen, is John Wesley Shipp, who also played Barry Allen/The Flash in the 1990 TV series. He later held the role as the Flash of Earth-3, who is revealed to be Jay Garrick, the original Flash from the comics. Finally, he was able to play his original character from the 1990 series in the “Crisis On Infinite Earths” event that saw several cameos from and connections to classic and current TV shows and movies.
