STAR SAPPHIRE

In 1947, Star Sapphire first appeared in All-Flash Comics #32. She appeared as a villainess who fought against the Flash, Jay Garrick. She was a princess from the seventh dimension who used a star sapphire gem to create illusions and manipulate reality.

Nerdy Fact: The Star Sapphire gem would possess various women over the years, including Carol Ferris, the long-time love interest of Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern. The gem would often make them fight against Green Lantern, until he managed to free them from its influence. The Star Sapphires eventually reformed their methods and created a Central Power Battery and violet power rings, similar to the Green Lantern Corps. They also recruited members from different species and genders, not just human females.

In 2003, Call of Duty released on PC. This first-person shooter game was set in World War II, featuring four campaigns based on the American, British, Soviet, and Polish armies.

Nerdy Fact: The game was inspired by the 1998 film Saving Private Ryan and the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, which depicted the brutal realities of World War II.

“I WANT TO PLAY A GAME.”

In 2004, Saw released in theaters. This is a horror film about two men who are trapped in a deadly game by a serial killer known as Jigsaw, and must find a way to escape or die.

Nerdy Fact: The movie received an NC-17 rating at first, not because of the gore, but because of the lighting and sound that created a very dark and tense atmosphere. The creators had to cut some scenes and adjust the tone to get an R rating.
