In 1969, PBS was first established. The Public Broadcasting Service offers a variety of shows, documentaries, and educational programs for viewers of all ages.

Nerdy Fact: PBS’s first broadcast was Julia Child’s The French Chef on October 4, 1970. The show introduced French cooking to the American audience and made Julia Child a household name.

CARRIE

In 1976, Carrie premiered in theaters. This horror movie based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, is about a teenage girl who has telekinetic powers and takes revenge on her bullies after they humiliate her at the prom.

Nerdy Fact: Carrie was Stephen King’s first big-screen adaptation and he was paid only $2500 for the film rights to his novel.

RAGNAROK THE HOUSE

In 2017, Thor: Ragnarok premiered in theaters. This movie follows the adventures of Thor, the god of thunder, as he tries to stop his evil sister Hela from destroying his home world of Asgard and unleashing the apocalypse known as Ragnarok. Along the way, he teams up with his brother Loki, his old friend Hulk, and a new ally Valkyrie to escape from a planet ruled by the eccentric Grandmaster.

Nerdy Fact: The movie deviated from the original script and relied heavily on improvisation. Waititi claimed that 80% of the dialogue was improvised on the spot. One of the most famous lines in the movie, “He’s a friend from work!”, was suggested by a child who visited the set through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
