From iconic movies to groundbreaking games and significant literary contributions, this article takes a trip down memory lane to explore the notable nerd culture events that occurred on February 25th in history. Let’s celebrate these cherished moments that have left an indelible mark on the hearts of fans around the world.

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST | 2004

In 2004, The Passion of the Christ premiered in theaters. The Passion of the Christ is a film that depicts the final 12 hours of Jesus Christ’s life, from his arrest to his crucifixion, based on the biblical Gospels and other sources.

Nerdy Facts:

  • The movie was filmed entirely in the ancient Aramaic and Latin languages, which required the actors to learn their lines phonetically.

  • Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus, suffered from hypothermia, pneumonia, a dislocated shoulder, and a lung infection during the filming. He also accidentally got whipped twice and was struck by lightning.

  • The movie holds the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film in the United States, with over $370 million in domestic box office. It received this rating due to its realistic portrayal of the suffering Christ was put through, which historically was incredibly violent.

ELDEN RING | 2022

In 2022, Elden Ring launched on the PC, PlayStation, and XBOX consoles. Elden Ring is a fantasy action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware, with worldbuilding by George R. R. Martin, set in a vast open world called the Lands Between.

Nerdy Facts:

  • The game’s tutorial is hidden at the bottom of a dark hole that many players would probably ignore. If you want to learn the basics of combat, stealth, and other mechanics, you should jump into the hole before exploring the Lands Between.

  • You can use voice emote items to interact with some NPCs and influence their questlines. For example, you have to use the “You’re beautiful” emote to complete Boc the Seamster’s quest and make him happy.

  • The game’s lore is rich and complex, with many references to the Erdtree, the Greater Will, the Tarnished, and the Malformed. You can learn more about the game’s backstory by reading item descriptions, talking to NPCs, and exploring the world.
