DOLLY THE SHEEP | 1997

In 1997, scientists announced the first successfully cloned sheep, named Dolly. Dolly the Sheep was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell, using a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer, by scientists in Scotland several months earlier.

 

Nerdy Facts:

  • Dolly was not the first animal to be cloned, but she was the first one to be cloned from an adult cell. Before her, clones had been made from embryonic cells or cells from early embryos.

  • Dolly had six lambs of her own, named Bonnie, Sally, Rosie, Lucy, Darcy, and Cotton. She was also a grandmother to nine lambs and a great-grandmother to four lambs.

  • Dolly’s cloning sparked a lot of ethical debates and controversies, especially about the possibility of human cloning. Some people were in favor of cloning for medical and scientific purposes, while others were opposed to it for religious or moral reasons.

FIFA STREET | 2005

In 2005, FIFA Street released on consoles. FIFA Street is a sports video game that features arcade-style soccer with flair and trickery, inspired by the culture of freestyle street soccer.

 

Nerdy Facts:

  • The game features Ronaldinho as the cover star and the main character of the career mode. He is also the only player in the game who can perform a special trick called the seal dribble, where he balances the ball on his head and runs past defenders.

  • The game is commentated by MC Harvey, a British rapper and former member of the group So Solid Crew. He provides witty remarks and insults during the matches, as well as introducing the players and venues.

  • The game includes 50 venues from around the world, ranging from urban streets and rooftops to exotic locations like Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. Some of the venues are based on real-life places, such as the Amsterdam Arena and the Berlin Wall.
