AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER | 2005

In 2005, Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Nickelodeon. Avatar: The Last Airbender is an American animated series that follows the adventures of Aang, a young boy who can manipulate the four elements of nature and is destined to save the world from the tyranny of the Fire Nation.

 

Nerdy Facts:

  • The show was inspired by a documentary about Ernest Shackleton, a polar explorer who survived a perilous journey to the South Pole.

  • The bending styles are based on real martial arts, such as Tai Chi for waterbending, Hung Gar for earthbending, Northern Shaolin for firebending, and Bagua for airbending.

  • The show set a Netflix record for the most consecutive days in the top 10 list, with 60 days from May to July 2020.

DONEKY KONG COUNTRY: TROPICAL FREEZE | 2014

In 2014, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze released on the Wii U. Tropical Freeze is a platform game where Donkey Kong and his friends must save their island from the Snowmads, a group of icy invaders, with the help of new features and abilities.

 

Nerdy Facts:

  • The game is the first in the series to feature more than two playable characters, with Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong acting as companions of Donkey Kong who provide him additional abilities.

  • The game is also the first to have Dixie Kong as a playable character since Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! which was released in 1996.

  • The game has a new mode where the player can control Funky Kong, who has five hearts, a surfboard, and enhanced jumping and swimming abilities, making the game easier and faster to play.
